Cannabis & Wound Healing

Presented by Dr Frances Henshaw

About this module:

In this presentation, Associate Professor Frances Henshaw discusses wound healing, including what happens when this becomes dysregulated and the role of the endocannabinoid system. She demonstrates evidence for the potential role of key phyto-cannabinoids in the treatment of wound healing, including both preclinical and human research.

This presentation is suitable for healthcare practitioners and those with a background in biomedical sciences. It assumes a knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and medicinal cannabis pharmacodynamics.
Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the differences between the processes of normal wound healing and dysregulated wound healing.
  • Describe the factors that delay wound healing.
  • Describe the role of the endocannabinoid system in wound healing.
  • Rationalise why medicinal cannabis may be able to assist in wound healing.
  • Argue the evidence base for the use of medicinal cannabis and key phytocannabinoids in assisting wound healing.
