Inflammation and the Endocannabinoid System

Presented Dr Philip Blair, MD

About this module:

In this presentation, Dr Philip Blair MD, experienced medicinal cannabis prescriber, discusses inflammation, the processes that occur in inflammation and the role of the endocannabinoidome. The mechanisms of action by which cannabinoids, with a particular emphasis on cannabidiol (CBD) and Beta-Caryophyllene are explored, with dosing guidelines and a case study completing the presentation.

This presentation is targeted at healthcare professionals and those with a background in biomedical sciences and assumes a knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and pharmacodynamics of medicinal cannabis constituents.
Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Describe key processes involved in inflammation.
  • Explain to a peer the concept of the endocannabinoidome and its role.
  • Explain some of the mechanisms by which CBD can modulate immune cells, cytokines and oxidative stress.
  • Explain the potential benefits of Beta Caryophyllene in addressing inflammation.
  • Formulate a strategy for treatment of inflammatory conditions with CBD-predominant medicinal cannabis products.
